Our 2017 Second Quarter Spending Rate

Our 2017 Second Quarter Spending Rate

We are now half way through the year with the arrival of July. This calls for an update on the Summit of Coin family spending. Things for our family have become really interesting and our savings has not been up to our normal Summit of Coin Savings. With the start of our daughter in daycare and other expenses, we did not reach our savings goal over the past three months. Our goal is 35% for the entire year (with an understanding that some months will be better and some will be worse. Let's jump into our April spending report.

Three Lessons Learned from Buying Our Fancy Headboard

Three Lessons Learned from Buying Our Fancy Headboard

It was a Friday, I remember it well. My wife and I were visiting her grandmothers house and it was a pretty relaxing weekend. I got on my phone to check my e-mail and there it was, in my inbox. An e-mail that would end up eventually costing us $300, but possibly saving us at least $599 in the long run.

My Meeting with a Universal Life Agent

My Meeting with a Universal Life Agent

This past summer, I worked summer school at one of the high schools in my school district. Just like at my school, there was an opportunity to get a free meal from a financial advisor. I normally avoid the teachers lounge on these days, because I like to avoid the awkward conversations. This time, I was interested to hear what they had to say. I took this as an opportunity to listen to the message and report back to my readers. Plus, I was interested to learn more about TRS.

The Importance of Patience

The Importance of Patience

This past week I was reading an article by Milllennial Money Man (M$M) about Patience.  He used a great personal story about how some months there is lots of growth with his blog and some months, there is no growth.  He also says that he has some articles that are a hit and some articles that are a flop.  He used a great example of how people can get bogged down on trying to make a quick buck.  They try those late night infomercials and all they get is run into the mud.  So based on this article, I want to pose a question.  How can we continue to strive for something, if we don't see the reward?

Our 2016 First Quarter Spending Rate

Our 2016 First Quarter Spending Rate

Last year, I had set a goal to do a monthly update on spending each month.  This year, I have decided to do a spending rate article every quarter.  This way I can devote more time on other articles.  As you may recall, our 2016 goal is a 35% savings rate, mainly because we did not hit our goal last year and the fact that we now have a mortgage payment.
