The Barefoot Blue Jean Night Challenge

I always put on some music and let it play in the background as I work on these articles. I always change it up from classical, to country, to christian and many more styles. One day, I was listening to a country station on Pandora, and "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" came on. It gave me this article and challenge idea. A few lyrics of the song are stated below:

“We were doing’ it right,
We were comin’ alive,
Caught up in a Southern Summer
Barefoot Blue Jean night.”
— Lyrics from Barefoot Blue Jean Night by Jake Owen

I have always been a big fan of this song, mainly because it is one of those fun summer ballads. Unlike the song lyrics, this article applies to anybody. It's this idea of hanging out with good friends, good food and a good fire. There is nothing more needed than that (although some people would add alcohol, but I'm not a big fan of that stuff).

I know that sometimes it can be fun to go out, have dinner and bar hop. But that can get pretty expensive. Somebody could easily drop a hundred dollars on a nice dinner and some drinks in one night. If that is your idea of fun, then you can continue this after completing this challenge. So, here's my challenge to all of you:

Make tonight a Barefoot Blue Jean Night.

That is to say, "Just Relax." Stay in, grill out, watch the sunset and feel the grass beneath your feet. There is no need to go out to dinner. There is no need to go to a concert. Spend this time with your friends and family. Play a game and go for a walk. Your family will always remember the memories made. These memories don't always have to be the latest and greatest thing in town, but it could just be playing a board game with the family.

My wife and I still go out to dinner occasionally and we still hang out with friends at happy hour, but sometimes we can find that a "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" can be very rejuvenating. There is the added bonus that the less you run out and drop a hundred dollars at the bar, then the more your bank account will grow. Not that money is more important than friends, but you could save a lot more by having friends over instead of meeting them for dinner and drinks.

Now, this does not mean that you can't ever go out with your friends. And this doesn't mean that you can't go out to eat, but I want you try it out. Trying a night in can be very refreshing, because you don't have to worry about traffic or making it to dinner on time. It can be very stressful rushing out of the house, sitting in traffic and arriving 20 minutes late to a dinner with your friends. Take tonight and avoid all of this craziness.

The ability to stay in, relax, and enjoy the company of family and friends is one of the greatest treasures we can have in life. This type of relaxation can help you save money and get rid of lots of stress. So, take this challenge tonight, and tell me how it went in the comments section below. And then take this challenge every month and see how much you can save by just staying home!
